This piece is not just another pendant...it's a work of art. Renowned Navajo artist Ivan Howard used a silver coin (90% silver) as the canvas. Those serrated outer edges on this pendant? They're the original edges of the coin. A stellar green Royston turquoise stone is set in a castellated bezel in the middle of this pendant with a sort of shield design. Precise hand stamp work radiates from the center.
The pendant is 1 3/8" in diameter. From the top of the bale to the bottom of the pendant is about 1 5/8".
The turquoise stone is about 1/4" in diameter.
The opening of the bale is 3/16".
It weighs 13.6 g.
The artist's hallmark on the back is "IH" for celebrated Navajo silversmith Ivan Howard. He's known for working with only the best stones. He indicated the source of this stone to be the Royston Mine in Nevada. The hallmark "CS" indicates that this is coin silver (90% silver).
This pendant was sourced directly from the artist; it has never been worn before.
